Eucharist – Holy Communion

Preparation for First Holy Communion

First Holy Communion is a very special occasion in the life of a child and their family. It is an important step in their journey of faith, as they receive the Eucharist for the first time and become more fully involved in the life of the Church.

Preparation for First Holy Communion is a shared responsibility between the home, school and parish. Parents and guardians play a particularly important role in helping children understand and grow in their faith. The support of teachers, priests and the wider parish community also helps make this a meaningful and memorable experience.

During their preparation, children learn about the Mass, the Eucharist, prayer and the importance of following the example of Jesus in their daily lives. They are encouraged to take part in parish life and to attend Mass regularly with their families.

The celebration of First Holy Communion is not simply a special day, but part of a lifelong journey of faith. Families are encouraged to continue participating in the life of the parish and supporting their children as they grow in their relationship with God.

First Holy Communion Arrangements

Arrangements for First Holy Communion, including preparation activities, enrolment and celebration dates, are organised locally.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact the Parish Office or their child’s school for information about the arrangements in their parish.
