Our Parish Heritage
The Christian heritage of Coolmeen–Cranny stretches back many centuries, with the historic church site at Kilfidane providing an important link to the area’s religious past.
St Benedict’s Church in Coolmeen was built in 1831, during the ministry of Fr Patrick Sheedy. Some of the stone used in its construction came from the earlier medieval church at Kilfidane.
Among its notable features is a medieval baptismal font, a tangible connection between the parish’s past and the generations who continue to celebrate their faith here.
Today, our two churches remain central to parish life, bringing families, neighbours and friends together for worship and important community occasions.
Through Radharc na nOileán, the parish continues to share its traditions and faith with neighbouring communities across West Clare.
